I accidently deleted a NTFS file from my system and my pc will not startup becasue of the missing file. I used my xp disc to restore th file but it asks me for my administrative password which i have forgotten since I havent used my pc for quite some time. What can I do? Re-install Xp Pro

If you have access to another machine with a burner and the internet you can download a password reset disk which will allow you to reset the adminitrator password.
Or boot from a linux cd with ntfs write support and copy the file across eg. knoppix.
Google either method for links to the required tools.

If your looking to just recover your files and things you want, not your programs, try this:
1. Get a new (or used) hard drive and put it in your computer as the primary drive, put your drive with the original files on it in as a secondary drive.
2. Install your OS on the new drive, and once your done, you can access all the files on the old drive. Just transfer over what you want.
Sometimes its good to get a clean start on things. Think of it as a cleaning, not a deletion.. _________________ Commander Chris Wagoner
