I know there are laws involved with investigating a computer. I just added a virtual drive to my lap top and am downloading some forensic tools/software to use on my own computer. But, if I wanted to use these same tools/software on lets say my wifes laptop, what additional hardware would I need? imaging devices, adapters, cables, etc..? I have not found a job that would allow me to use my degree so I am trying to practice on my own computers to gain some experience so when the time comes I can be a little more prepared. Any info will help. Thanks.
What OS are you using for your exam workstation? If it is Windows you will need some form of write-blocking. If you are just examining image files in Windows, you would just need the computer and your software.
Linux depends on the distro you are using. Some auto-mount, some do not.
Hard to make an informed response with the limited info you provided.
